january 12, 2016 placed in the dream catcher hung among the palm trees, a bunch of grapes and an ear of wheat remind us of yoseph’s dreams and foreshadow the downs and ups in his life that are to come. his sons, menashe and ephraim, are also presented here by their associated animals: a tachash, the mysterious unicorn-like creature from whose skin the curtains of the Mishkan were made, and an ox. as an integral part of every shabbos, parents bless their children every friday night to emulate ephraim and menashe – two siblings filled with such brotherly love that although they were yaakov’s grandchildren he recognized both of them as his own. and thus they became included among the twelve tribes. |
