december 8, 2015 throughout world culture, the snake is a traditional and historical symbol of justice. the serpents on the banner of the tribe of dan are similarly identified with the justice system. the centre of the composition includes additional symbols of integrity and fairness: vintage scales of justice and ancient scrolls of law. one can also view in the passage a reference to one of the most famous descendants of dan – the judge shimshon who brought peace to eretz yisroel, defeating the plishtim “like a snake”. |
